Design Review Board oversees district

The city's Design Review Board protects the integrity of the architectural heritage of the downtown Chillicothe historic district. Established by City Council, the board reviews applications for changes to facades and requests for signs and demolitions to ensure they are in keeping with the standards set by the council.
The district's boundaries are Water, Fifth, Mulberry and Walnut streets and the properties that face them.
The mayor appoints the five board members who meet every month on the third Thursday at 4:30 to review the applications.
Here's the process to submit an application:
Complete the application available by clicking here or by visiting the Chillicothe Building Department on the third floor of the Administration Building at 35 S. Paint St.
In addition to the required information on the application, color photographs are required with all applications. The photos should:
Clearly show the building at street level, showing the area to be affected;
Photos should also encompass the surrounding area, at street level, to reflect how other structures and/or infrastructure may be affected;
If a change or addition is planned, a drawing "to scale" musdt be submitted, along with color photos of the existing structure or lot;
If the application is for a new sign or mdoification to an existing sign, a photo of where it will be placed on the building, along with a rendering from the sign company doing the work must be attached. Samples of sign material and color must alos accopany the application, or be brought to the meeting.
